MHD: To kick things off, tell us about CartiiJaay? Where are you from? How long have you been making music? Etc.

CartiiJaay: I’m originally From Detroit, Michigan lived there for roughly 10 years of my life then I ended up in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. I’ve been doing music all my life got influence early as a youngin watching my mom play in the church choir always been around it.

MHD: How did you start making music? Who were some of your early musical influences?

CartiiJaay: Like I said, got influence off of my mother’s surroundings with music, but I never had the money to get in an official studio when I was first up and coming so I had to learn how to mix and master my own music and edit it as well. Wu-Tang plays a factor I like RZA & Ason , I also mess with Nas a lot as early influences. My to date influencer right now is PlayBoi Carti. That particular artist changed the way for my musical experience he showed me anything is possible.

MHD: Recently, we’ve had your track “Li Carti” on repeat. What is your creative process for writing lyrics and beat selection?

CartiiJaay: I was locked up for 5 and a half Months out near Charlotte , NC.  People in my city always knew I had talent so when I left for so long I dropped a tape and no one heard from me after I did my time. So when I got out I decided to let people know where my head was at and where I was coming from. That time let me find myself a little more.

MHD: What things/necessities are a must when you’re in the studio?

CartiiJaay: Next five years I just want to be financially stable and able to take care of my family. I really want to open the gates for all the scared young talented artist and show them they have no reason to hide that talent they got bottled up.

MHD: What is one piece of advice that you’ve received in life that you can pass on? Or a gem that you can leave the readers with.

CartiiJaay: Life is too short to be out here holding grudges. You’re here to get a check and take care of yours, don’t worry about that other sh*t!
